Alison Blunt was born in Mombasa, Kenya, grew up in Nairobi and subsequently in the Lake District, UK. Finding her way from a classical violin training at Birmingham Conservatoire and the Guildhall School of Music Alison’s fascination with sound, motion and space has led her into national and international solo and collaborative projects exploring the boundaries between art forms and genres and creating, performing and recording new music.

She has performed throughout the British Isles, Europe and Australia in contrasting environments including Royal Albert Hall (England), Southbank Centre (England), Australian Centre for the Moving Image (Australia), Bimhuis (Holland), Musikhuset Aarhus (Denmark), St Magnus Festival (Orkney, Scotland), Horta Cordel International Festival of Improvisation (Spain), Alte Gerberei (St Johann, Tirol), B-Flat (Germany), Stockwerk Jazz Club (Styria) and European Storytelling Marathons (Holland & Belgium) with a diverse array of artists including Chandru & the Strings of India, Renee Baker, Tristan Honsinger, Guy Dartnell, Tony Marsh, John Edwards, Barrel, Barcode Quartet, Lode, London Improvisers Orchestra, Pierrette Ensemble and Burning Wood.

Alison’s activities range from commissions for film, theatre and contemporary dance productions to arranging and recording children’s albums, from performances with small and large interdisciplinary ensembles to solo music and storytelling performances, from playing with pop and rock bands to playing with world folk music artists, from concerts and recordings of new music to devising and performing music puppet theatre shows.  Alison resists being pigeonholed.
